Serengeti National ParkThe Serengeti, of the north of Tanzania, is the world's most famous safari park due to its vast plains and the spectacular Great Wildebeest Migration, that takes place there every year where around two million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebras cross over from the neighbouring Masai Mara in Kenya. Throughout the year the Serengeti captivates guests with the sheer abundance of game inhabiting this heritage site covering around 15,000 sq km of land. The density and diversity of species and unique landscapes that make up the Serengeti ecosystem guarantee a remarkable safari. However, due to the popularity of the park it sees many visitors each year, particularly during high season making it much busier than the southern park alternatives. Its important to note that although the migration route is predicated by region, a sighting can not always be guaranteed, as climate and a variety of other factors can affect their timing.

WildlifeDue to its nutrient rich soil, the Serengeti is home to enormous herds of grazers and as a result a high concentration of predators such as lions, leopards, cheetahs and hyenas. The vast short grassed plains of the south and kopjes, or volcanic boulders, that dot the north of the park create a beautiful setting in which to absorb the wonder of this magnificent and unique eco-system. Species such as the Thomson gazelles, eland, hartebeest, topi, buffalo, elephant, genets are commonly sighted here and with over 500 known species of bird, there's never a dull moment on a Serengeti Safari.

ActivitiesGame drives are the main activity of the Serengeti. Up north one might spend the entire day watching the mesmerising herds of wildebeest crossing the Mara river, or grazing on the short grassed plains of the south. Due to the remarkable size of the park we generally suggest guests stay in two different regions during their visit. Its possible to fly or enjoy a day long game drive from the southern regions to the northern most areas. Hot air balloons are a wonderful way to take in the sheer size of this natural wonder and its unparalleled limitless herds of animals.

SeasonsIn order to see the height of the Great Wildebeest Migration, visiting the Serengeti between July to October would be advised, when they are making their way south from the Masai Mara. However, the calving season taking place around February in the southern Ndutu plains of the park can be just as exciting as the infamous northern river crossings. Although many guests focus on the migration, the resident game in Serengeti is worthy of the visit in itself and can be enjoyed year-round.
