The LodgeOlakira’s main areas are traditional canvas structures, divided into the lounge area and the dining or ‘mess’ tent. The lounge area is cozy and welcoming, simple in style with natural colours and materials, in keeping with an authentic superior migration camp. Despite the power sockets available throughout the camp, Asilia have opted for storm lantern light, which enhances the calming ambience and natural beauty of the location. Guests can enjoy either of the social areas with leather sofas, or comfortable wooden and leather chairs. The dining tent has been designed in true safari fashion, with a large wooden table surrounded by canvas chairs set up in a communal manner for guests to enjoy the notably personalised service and delicious food. Guests may also opt for al-fresco dining.

AccommodationThe 9 canvas tents at Olakira are certainly a highlight of the camp and distinguish it from the many other migration camps. The new star-gazing tents allow guests, should they wish to do so, to opt for their bed to be wheeled out under a mesh structure that provides a clear view of the sky above. Guests can doze off with a full view of the majestic star lit sky and perhaps a grazing hippo wandering nearby! During the day the area, that boasts a 270 degree view, serves as a veranda where guests can enjoy their surroundings. These spacious tents are equipped with all the necessary comforts, including a double or twin bed, wooden writing desk and a table and chairs. The tents provide an ensuite bathroom with flush toilets, hot water bucket showers, a brass basin, fresh running cold water and thermoses with hot and cold water that is safe for drinking.

Activities and AdventuresIn the Olakira Mara, in the north of the Serengeti, wildebeest migration crossings are a big highlight; however, the resident game in this region provides wonderful sightings of leopard, lions, elephants, giraffes and many more. In the Olakira Ndutu, in the southern Serengeti, guests can witness a variety of large game and might be lucky enough to spot the elusive and endangered wild dog. Guests can take part in game drives with their private guides or with the experienced and knowledgeable camp guides; the schedules are very flexible. For those that want to spend the full day on safari, packed lunches can be arranged to facilitate this, or guests can make their way back to camp for lunch and renew their safari adventures in the afternoon. In addition, early morning Hot Air Balloon Safaris can be arranged at an additional cost. When the camp is in it's northern location, village trips can be organised.
