Chem Chem, is a relatively new lodge option located between the South Eastern shore of Lake Manyara and lush forests. Opened in 2011 it is between the Lake Manyara National Park and Tarangire National Park in a dedicated wildlife concession, itself within a migratory route that sees a range of wildlife throughout the dry season. This luxury tented lodge overlooks and affords beautiful views of the Rift Valley’s western escarpment. The focus of this particular camp is primarily upon relaxation rather than tightly scheduled activities and is best suited to those wishing to take some downtime from other more arduous safari experiences. Offering fine dining and friendly service this stylish lodge is ideal for those with a more generous budget, to step back from the more rigorous safaris and enjoy the relaxing ambience that this unique luxury camp provides.​

The Lodge

Chem Chem is rated as a 5-star property due to the sophisticated facilities offered, personalised service and excellent cuisine. Guests can enjoy the swimming pool from which to watch the game or avail themselves of the viewing tower for an even better outlook. The communal area offers a lounge and library, shop, spa treatments and includes wifi reception. The external area also provides fire pits for the cooler evenings where guests can enjoy sundowners or stargazing and al-fresco activities. 

Accommodation

The spacious eight tented suites and main area are all as open as possible while retaining a sense of luxury that blends into the natural environment of this beautiful wildlife concession. The rooms are furnished with natural materials, such as wood, canvas and lava rock, and boast vintage furniture, and elegant finishes. Each 100m2 suite, provides a large ensuite with a stand-alone bathtub and stone walled outdoor shower. Outside each suite guests will find a private terrace equipped with a comfortable seating area.

Activities and Adventures

The location of Chem Chem makes it an ideal base from which to visit the two nearby parks. Although Lake Manyara is within sight, the Lake Manyara National Park itself is roughly 45 minutes away whist Tarangire National Park is somewhat closer and just a 20 minute drive. Activities on offer include open vehicle drives, walking safaris, swimming pool, and spa treatments. Arrangements can also be made to participate in walks with the resident Maasai, and learn learn about their unique game tracking skills and rich age old culture. The lodge also offers guests a range of more extravagant activities, such as, helicopter rides, sundowners on shores of Lake Manyara, and hot air balloon rides.
