The LodgeThe main area of the lodge comprises of a twin level thatched structure, open on 3 sides, allowing panoramic views of the encircling forests. Elegantly and stylishly decorated throughout, the communal area boasts polished wooden floors decorated with African wood carvings, neutral coloured furniture, and unique banana leaf chains. The upper floor is designed as a lounge area, with comfortable sofas, and wooden coffee tables, creating niches for guests to relax and perhaps read one of their fascinating books about the wildlife of Lake Manyara. The generous dining area on the ground floor has an open plan kitchen, allowing guests to watch chefs preparing their meals. One of the camps features is a marvelous open air boma, an enclosure traditionally used in Swahili culture to protect the tribal home and cattle. The encircling boma, fashioned from wooden poles, is used as an outdoor dining and barbecue area, charmingly lit up at night with hanging lanterns. The small swimming pool, at the end of a short path and nestled deep in the bush, is surrounded by wooden decking and sun-loungers.

AccommodationThe 9 raised thatch ‘tree houses,’ including one family suite, are set on stilts, within small clearings in the forest, affording a high level of privacy created by the ancient mahogany trees that surround them. Each can be reached by a sandy path from the main area, and boast a spacious bedroom, tastefully furnished with natural colours and materials. All suites provide a fan, phone to call reception, Wifi, safe and spacious en-suite bathroom, equipped with porcelain double wash basins and a separate toilet area. French doors lead to the large wooden veranda with a seating area and beautiful outdoor shower.

Activities and AdventuresLake Manyara is famous for its diverse landscapes, high population of flamingos and the renowned ‘tree climbing lions’; however, it has even more to offer, with a vast variety of water birds, huge herds of elephants in addition to baboons, impala, and giraffes. The park can be quite busy in the northern region, but Lake Manyara Tree Lodge is strategically located in the south which remains comparatively isolated and unspoiled. Guests can take part in game drives around the park with their private guides, or the knowledgeable lodge guides, as well as night drives and cultural excursions. Bike tours are also available and are a unique way to explore the region. The new ‘treetop walkway,’ a bridge built into the forest, reaching a height of 18m, is a thrilling way to gain new perspective on the wildlife and can be arranged by the lodge for an additional cost.
