Family Safaris in AfricaSafaris Every Family Member Can Enjoy
A safari in Tanzania is a unique experience for all ages, and it becomes even more meaningful when these special moments are shared with loved ones. We carefully tailor each journey to suit every member of a multigenerational family, from grandchildren to grandparents, ensuring that everyone feels equally engaged and inspired. The exciting, moving, and unforgettable experiences leave a lasting impression on the whole family. At the same time, safaris can be demanding for younger travelers, as wildlife viewing during extended game drives, usually twice a day, requires a good level of attention and patience. For this reason, we recommend planning a varied program and limiting the safari portion to around seven to eight days. As family safaris can be relatively costly, we always take great care to design your itinerary with a balanced price to quality ratio in mind. |

Planning the Perfect Family Safar
We believe that both guided safaris and selected self drive journeys are very well suited for families. That said, there are a few important aspects to consider when planning a family safari. Many lodges and camps offer spacious family units or interconnecting rooms, allowing everyone to stay comfortably together. It is also important to ensure that activities are varied and suitable for all ages. Special children’s rates can make a safari more accessible for larger families, although these vary from one property to another. The overall pace of the journey should also be carefully considered, as constant travel can be tiring, especially for younger travellers. Namibia, in particular, is an excellent destination for a family self drive safari. With its good infrastructure and the absence of dangerous wildlife in many regions, it offers a safe and rewarding sense of adventure. We often recommend a combination of camping at well maintained private campsites and stays in comfortable lodges, creating a balanced and memorable experience for the whole family. Please note that the minimum age for all safaris in our portfolio is six years. |
Finding the Right Safari for Your Family
Privately Guided Safaris and Fly In Safaris A classic privately guided safari is one of the best ways for families to experience Africa. Traveling with your own guide on a multi day journey allows for complete flexibility and a pace that suits your family. The safari vehicles typically used are spacious and comfortable, offering excellent visibility and plenty of room for everyone. Whether tracking wildlife across open plains or exploring diverse landscapes, each day is shaped around your interests. For those seeking a more remote and exclusive experience, fly in safaris offer a wonderful alternative. These journeys take you into some of Africa’s most untouched and inaccessible regions, often only reachable by light aircraft. Staying in small, intimate lodges or camps, you can enjoy a wide range of activities such as game drives, boat safaris, walking safaris, or even hot air balloon flights, all arranged directly by the lodge and tailored to your preferences. Unlike in a driving safari, in which the pace is quicker, little ones can skip activities and relax at the lodge in a typical fly-in safari. Self Drive Safaris Self drive safaris provide a fantastic alternative to guided journeys and are ideal for families looking for a sense of independence and adventure. With well planned routes and reliable infrastructure in certain regions, you can explore at your own pace while still enjoying a high level of comfort and safety. We often recommend a combination of lodge stays and fully equipped vehicles, sometimes with rooftop tents, creating a unique and memorable experience for the whole family. Beach Extensions Many of our safari destinations can be perfectly combined with a relaxing stay by the ocean. Whether along the mainland coast or on one of the Indian Ocean islands, beach extensions offer a wonderful contrast to the adventure of a safari. A wide range of family friendly hotels provide the ideal setting to unwind, with activities such as snorkeling, diving, and water sports, or simply time to relax by the sea. It is the perfect way to end your journey on a calm and memorable note. |
