This itinerary is a great guideline route for first time visitors to Namibia as its includes a variety of regions and experiences, from the iconic vibrant barren red sand dunes of Sossuvlei to the game rich Etosha National Park. We have included a good balance of roof-tent camping and lodging to provide the best self drive experience possible. All of our itineraries are tailor made so this should just provide some inspiration for those who would like to see what a Namibia self-drive adventure could entail.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Olive Grove - Windhoek

Arrive in Windhoek, transferred to Olive Grove Guesthouse for your first nights stay. Later in the afternoon you will be taken to our base and introduced to your vehicle, plus briefed on the vehicle, its equipment, the driving conditions, route and safety issues.

Day 2 - Okonjima Campsite - Africat Foundation

On this day, after breakfast, you will have a short driver safety course. After which you will be shown where to stock up on food supplies for your camping nights before embarking on your trip. You will then set off to the Okonjima Reserve, home to the AfriCat Foundation.

Day 3 - Onguma Campsite - Etosha National Park

Today you drive north to the Onguma Reserve on the edge of Etosha National Park. You will stay in one of Onguma's campsites, either Leadwood campsite or Tamboti. Either is great and provides you with your own site with a private ablution block. As a camper you are also able to use the facilities of the lodge for meals.

Day 4 - Etosha Safari Lodge - Etosha National Park
This morning you will head into the famous Etosha National Park. You will game drive your way across the park and stay at the lovely Etosha Safari Lodge.

Day 5 - Olifantrus Campsite - Etosha National Park

Today you will drive to Olifantsrus Campsite, which is located in Western Etosha. This is a part of Etosha not often seen; only guests of Dolomite and Olifantsrus Campsite are allowed to enter.

Day 6 & 7 - Entendekka Mountain Camp - Damaraland

You will exit Etosha and take the scenic drive to Etendeka Mountain Camp (a Safari Drive favourite), which is set in the north of Damaraland. This remote eco tented camp has an incredible offering. The guides, the walks, the story, all make your stay very special. They also have rare sightings of giraffe, mountain zebra, oryx, springbok, lion and even desert elephant and black rhino.

Day 8 - Mowani Campsite - Damaraland

Today you will start to head south into the heart of Damaraland where you will be staying at the campsite that belongs to Mowani. This is a scenic area, famous for rock art.

Day 9 - Spitzkoppe Campsite - Damaraland

Today you will drive to Spitzkoppe, which we think is one of the most beautiful areas in Namibia, consisting of an imposing granite rock formation set in the plains. Here you can walk in the area and climb up to Bushman’s Paradise, a small basin tucked between the domes of rock, where you can view the rock paintings done by Bushman of the past and gaze at the amazing view.

Day 10 & 11 - Desert Breeze - Swakopmund

You will drive to the coastal town of Swakopmund. With palm-lined streets, seaside promenades and fine accommodation. This is also Namibia's activity centre, here you can do a range of activities, including seal excursions, kayak tours, quad biking (on sand dunes), scenic flights (up the skeleton coast), desert tours and more.

Day 12 - Sossus Dune Lodge - Sossusvlei

You have quite a long drive as you continue south to Sossus Dune Lodge and the magnificent dunes of Sossusvlei.

Day 13: Bullsport Exclusive Campsite - Rehoboth

Your next destination is Bullsport Guest Farm, one of the oldest farms in Namibia. They have their own game, cattle and sheep and they also breed Namibian horses which you can ride in this spectacular region.

Day 14: Eningu Clayhouse - Windhoek

You will head to Eningu Clayhouse Lodge for your final night in Africa. The lodge is stunning, peaceful and is without doubt one of the most relaxing and tranquil lodges you will encounter on your journey.
